The preparation method of EVOH: firstly copolymerize ethylene and vinyl acetate, and then hydrolyze the copolymer to obtain ethylene-vinyl alcohol. Therefore, the high barrier effect is still retained, and the moisture resistance and processing performance are significantly improved.

New Development:
With the growth of rigid, high-barrier plastic packaging, new performance requirements are put forward for EVOH resin. To meet these needs, EVOH suppliers provide certain brands of products, such as J102 (EVAL Corporation-EVALCA in the United States) and ST series products from Goshei in Japan. These products have improved processability and a wider molding range. Other products, such as F100 and E151 from EVAL Corporation of the United States, have also been developed, which have better viscosity and better compatibility with typical polyolefins used in rigid containers. In the field of plastic recycling, EVOH resin has more advantages. Used HDPE milk bottles and multi-layer bottles (containing EVOH resin) are blended to produce non-food containers.
Application:
The barrier layer structure containing EVOH resin is used in all hard and flexible packaging and all types of food processing including aseptic, heat injection and pressure cooking. Products packaged with EVOH materials include: condiments (soy sauce), tomato sauce, juice, edible batter, meat products, cheese products and processed fruits. Non-food applications include solvents, chemicals, and pharmaceutical-related product packaging. Manufacturers of fuel tanks, fuel pipes, and air-conditioning equipment for motor vehicles are evaluating whether to use EVOH structures to reduce hydrocarbon and/or Freon emissions.
