The common PPR tubes on the market are not only white, but also green, gray, blue, yellow and so on. The reason why there are so many different colors is that different color masterbatches are added when producing pipes. So what is color masterbatch? What's the use? Is it environmentally friendly and healthy? IFAN will explain it to you in detail.
What is color masterbatch?
Color masterbatch raw materials mainly include: carrier, colorant, auxiliary agent.
Carrier: It carries the colorant, disperses and fuses it into the plastic, and is an important part of the color masterbatch.
Colorants: The most critical part of the masterbatch, which is the root cause of the different colors of the pipes.
Auxiliary: The relative content is small, generally to help the colorant disperse or enhance the anti-oxidation, light stability and other properties.
Color masterbatch is usually divided into general color masterbatch and special color masterbatch, the difference lies in the choice of carrier. For example, the carrier of PPR special color masterbatch is generally selected from PPR to ensure good compatibility. Due to the poor compatibility of general color masterbatches, most regular manufacturers only produce special color masterbatches.
The role of color masterbatch
The PPR raw material itself is colorless, but the pipes made in this way have no shading properties, and bacteria and algae are easy to breed in the pipes, causing water pollution and affecting the service life of the water pipes. Therefore, the national standard stipulates that color masterbatch must be added to the PPR water pipe to obtain good shading performance. It should be noted that even white water pipes are added with white color masterbatch.
Color masterbatch performance
The color masterbatches produced by regular manufacturers and passed the quality inspection are all healthy and environmentally friendly. A good color masterbatch has better fluidity and compatibility, and can be more uniformly dispersed in the plastic, without adversely affecting the mechanical properties of the plastic itself. In addition, for PPR water pipes, the hiding power of the color masterbatch is a very important parameter, which determines the shading performance of the water pipe. The shading performance also means the ability of the PPR water pipe to inhibit the growth of algae and bacteria in the water pipe.
